Erin has been a respected wine show judge for more than a decade, both in Australia and internationally.Â

Panel Chairs
Steve Baraglia
Born and raised in the Barossa Valley, the wine industry has always been a big part of Steve’s life. From an early age he ‘worked’ in the small family vineyard at Williamstown, which ultimately lead to a career in the wine industry. In 2003, after finishing an Oenology degree and a Viticultural diploma at the University of Adelaide he joined the team at Pikes Wines in Clare where he is now the Chief Winemaker. He is passionate about making wine and particularly loves working with Riesling.Â
Naked Run Wines was formed in 2005 when Steve and two university friends decided to make small batches of Riesling and Grenache. Since then the range has grown but their attitude hasn’t, with the aim to make balanced, small batch wines with drinkability. In late 2005 Steve and his wife Laura purchased a small vineyard in Sevenhill which grows Riesling, Shiraz, Mataro and Cabernet fruit.  Steve has judged at numerous wine shows around Australia and was a Len Evan scholar in 2023.Â
Kate Goodman
As a winemaker Kate creates wines that she loves to drink. Establishing Goodman Wines in 2012 gave Kate the freedom to share her journey with others and make wines that truly express her passion for life and bringing people together.
Kate is also the Head Wine Maker at Penley and winner of the 2024 Wine Maker of the Year at the Halliday Wine Companion Awards.Â
Kate’s wine journey has taken her from large family-owned wineries like Wirra Wirra in McLaren Vale, to the iconic Seppelt in the Grampians, and to ground-breaking newcomers like Punt Road Wines in the Yarra Valley.
Kate has been fortunate enough to consult to an array of exceptional wine producers across Australia and has had pivotal career experiences participating in vintages in France, Spain and the United States.
Brendan Carr
Brendan is Operations Manager for Idee Fixe, leading a team of fizz fanatics who are exploring the unique and untapped potential of southern Margaret River Blanc de Blanc.
Prior to this, Brendan was the Winemaker for Xanadu for over a decade, where the team celebrated nine consecutive National Wine Show Cabernet trophies and the coveted Jimmy Watson trophy.
A Len Evans Tutorial scholar and a graduate of the ARWI AWAC, Brendan has been active regional and capital city wine show judge for over 10 years.
With more than 20 vintages under his belt, both domestically and abroad in the old and new world, Brendan has an intuitive approach to winemaking and a deep respect for the vineyard where he considers the true quality begins.
In his spare time, Brendan enjoys long walks along very short Margaret River beaches.
Judges
Nick Ryan
Thrown out of university in Adelaide and moving to Sydney, Nick Ryan used the knowledge he’d gained raiding his old man’s cellar to land a job with one of Sydney’s leading wine merchants. Realising writing about it was easier than lifting it has led him to where he is now.
He is the senior wine writer for The Australian and a columnist for The World of Fine Wine, a contributor to Halliday Magazine and The Robb Report, a highly experienced wine show judge and an in-demand presenter at wine events around the world.
Now based in the Clare Valley, Nick is excited by wines that are just as interesting by the fourth glass as they are at the first and would give it all up to play one game for the Port Adelaide Football Club.
Matt Godfrey
Matt Godfrey recently joined the Credaro Family as Chief Winemaker following over 20 vintages. Matt grew up in one of Australia’s major wine regions, the Barossa Valley, in a winemaking family. Surprisingly, it was Matt’s early exposure to winemaking and a love of the ocean & sustainability that led him to initially follow different pursuits, namely marine biology & aquaculture.
It wasn’t until Matt caught the travel bug & was looking to fund his trips overseas that he worked at Wolf Blass winery that he found his passion for wine. He pursued his Oenology studies at Charles Sturt University & commenced winemaking during that time. Matt’s move to Devil’s Lair in Margaret River was in 2014.
Matt commenced his judging journey after being awarded Dux at the AWAC in 2016 & has judged at both regional & capital city shows.
Matt’s winemaking philosophy is about translating the site & variety into every bottle of wine and essentially be a caretaker for the effort, energy & passion that goes into agriculture & growing grapes.
Livia Maiorana
Livia is the winemaker and one of the owners of South by South West wines, which she established with her partner in 2016. They farm two organic vineyards in the southern sub regions of Margaret River of which one is also home to their cellar door. Whilst based in Margaret River, South by South West also works with a team of loyal growers to respectfully make wines from across other south west regions to chase terroir and vintage driven wines.
A love of organic chemistry and the traditions and culture within a bottle of wine guided Livia into winemaking from her previous career as a Chemical Engineer. In 2019 Livia was awarded with one of the Young Gun Winemaker of the Year Awards. Livia passionately represented small producers as a Wines of Western Australia (WOWA) board member for four years and is currently on the Margaret River Wine Show Committee Board.
Livia hit the judging circuit in 2022 and completed the AWRI Advanced Wine Assessment Course (AWAC) in 2022. Livia holds a WSET Level 3 Certificate, and is looking to continue her involvement in wine judging going forward.
Tim Pelquest-Hunt
Tim Pelquest-Hunt is the Group White Winemaker for Vinarchy and Chief Winemaker for Orlando Wines, a producer with 179 years of winemaking and viticultural heritage. A Lincoln University (NZ) graduate, Tim brings extensive experience from leading wine regions across New Zealand, the Hunter Valley, Tasmania, West Sussex (UK), Rheinhessen (Germany), Napa Valley (USA), and the Barossa Valley, his home.
Recognised as dux of the AWRI Advanced Wine Assessment Course (2016) and a Len Evans Tutorial Scholar (2022), Tim has also been named among The Drinks Business ‘Master Winemakers Top 100’ in 2024 and 2025. He currently chairs the Barossa Wine Show committee. Deeply passionate about wine shows, Tim thrives in their energetic, collaborative environments.
Matt Buchan
Matt Buchan is the Senior winemaker & Winery operations manager at Deep Woods Estate, one of Australia’s most prestigious and recognised wine producers.
Hailing from McLaren vale, Matt was immersed into the wine industry from a young age. Now with more than two decades of experience and a handful of international vintages under his belt, Matt’s focus and commitment to crafting Western Australia’s best wine is unwavering.
Matt completed his winemaking studies at Charles Sturt University and has since continued to push his knowledge as a regular wine show judge both within WA and interstate.
In 2023 Matt was awarded the Sydney Royal professional development scholarship to attend the AWRI Advanced wine assessment course where he was named Dux.
Camille Bru
Born and bred in Bordeaux, it is with no surprise that Camille found herself pursuing a career in the wine industry. After graduating from the University of Bordeaux in 2015 with a Master of Winemaking and an internship at Chateau Latour, her obsession for outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon led her to Margaret River. Following her experience at Voyager Estate, she took off to complete vintages in Bordeaux, Provence and Hawkes Bay. Eventually, Margaret River’s call was too strong and she moved back in 2018.Â
Camille has been a Winemaker around the region for close to a decade, with over six years spent at Cape Mentelle. She most recently assisted in the first ever vintage at Wayfinder’s new winery.Â
After completing her AWAC in 2024, Camille began her wine judging career with positions at the James Halliday Australian Chardonnay & Cabernet Challenge, the Perth Royal Wine Show and the Wine Show of Western Australia.Â
