Chief Judge
Courtney Treacher
Searching for a career with a difference Courtney studied a Bachelor of Science (Viticulture and Oenology) through Western Australia’s Curtin University. Courtney worked brief stints in the vineyards of the Perth Hills and Swan Valley before doing vintages in Margaret River at Redgate Wines and in the Hunter Valley at Tamburlaine Wines.
Courtney has long been a part of the Houghton Winemaking team, racking up 17 vintages across the Houghton Swan Valley and Nannup sites. In 2013 Courtney was appointed the winemaker responsible for Brookland Valley Wines. Courtney continues to enjoy being part of a dynamic team and the challenge of making wines of varied styles under the Houghton, Brookland Valley, Goundrey, Amberley and Moondah Brook ranges.
Courtney has been involved in wine show judging at a number of local and national wine shows, and was a scholar at the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial in 2011. An experience she describes as once in a lifetime.

Trina Smith
Trina is the Group White and Sparkling winemaker for Pernod Ricard Winemakers Australia and has been in the wine industry for over 20 years.
She is a graduate of the University of Adelaide and completed international vintages in California, South Africa and Italy after graduation. Trina started her Australian winemaking career with Brown Brothers before becoming Senior Sparkling Winemaker with Treasury Wine Estates prior to her current role with Pernod Ricard Winemakers.
Trina was a finalist in the Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year in 2020, and has judged at numerous national and regional wine shows.
Damian Hutton
Damian is Nikola Estate’s Chief Winemaker and General Manager. He has recently returned to the vineyards he once weeded under the watchful eye of his uncle, Ron Page, who was Houghton’s Vineyard Manager.
Damian headed winemaking operations at Millbrook Winery from 2007 where he created regional wines from fruit sourced from all premium Western Australian wine growing regions. These wines won gold medals in every capital city wine show in Australia and every regional wine show in WA.
Currently building Nikola’s core wine offering from a small estate range, Damian is scouring the West Australian wine landscape in order to produce a portfolio of wines that reflects the greatness that lies in the diversity of Western Australia.
Severine Logan
Judges
Ryan Aggiss
Ryan is responsible for all vineyard management and wine production at Aravina Estate.
Ryan has worked in Margaret River, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, and the Sonoma Valley.
Formerly the site winemaker at Accolade Wine’s Houghton Winery in Nannup, Ryan has produced premium prize winning and popular wines across Accolade’s suite of labels.
He is a regular judge at Western Australian wine shows. He is driven to ensure that wine show judging remains a relevant for exhibitors to measure quality and consistency, and that wine shows are a conduit to consumer knowledge.
In 2009 Ryan was the Wine Society’s Australian and New Zealand Young Winemaker of the Year. He holds a BSc. (Oenology) from Charles Sturt University.
He likes surfing, being a dad, and Bob Segar.
Andrew Cherry
Andrew has been Chief Winemaker at Alkoomi Wines in Frankland River since 2010.
After completing a degree in Materials Science at the University of Western Australia, he gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Oenology from the University of Adelaide. He then worked for three years in the Clare Valley and also experienced vintages in Tuscany and Beaujolais.
Andrew has judged at the Wine Show of Western Australia, the Royal Perth Wine Show, the Royal Hobart Wine Show, the Canberra International Riesling Challenge, the Clare Valley Wine Show, and for Winestate Magazine.
Japo Dalli Cani
Japo is the Head Winemaker at McHenry Hohnen Vintners. He was born in Soave in north-east Italy where he grew up surrounded by vineyards and wineries.
After graduating from the Viticulture and Oenology University of Conegliano and gathering experience in his home country, Japo completed internships for top producers in France, Australia and New Zealand.
Impressed by the wines and by the landscape, Japo settled in Margaret River and joined the McHenry Hohnen team in 2016 where he was appointed Head Winemaker in 2019.
He has competed the AWAC course in Adelaide and has judged at the Langton’s Margaret River Wine Show and the Wine Show of WA.
Megs Kopke
Megs is the founder and owner of Morevino, an online wine store specialising in alternative varieties.
Megs is a graduate of Charles Sturt University and over the past 20 years has been involved in wine making, wine education, wine show judging, and wine retail.
Megs is into her seventh year as Chief Steward for the Geographe and Western Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show. She has previously judged at the Perth Royal Wine Awards, Margaret River Wine Show, Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show, Geographe and WA Alternative Varieties Wine Show.
Lance Parkin
Lance graduated from Curtin University a long time ago, with a Bachelor of Science in Viticulture and Oenology, receiving the dux, Oenology, and sensory awards. He moved from the large winery format to a small 3 hectare plot of vines at Heafod Glen in the Swan Valley where he looks after the vineyard and winery. He has also started his own brand- Battles Wines.
Vintages overseas in Portugal, Germany, Italy, France and the US formed his belief in making wines with freshness and texture, with the least amount of intervention.
Foni Pollitt
Foni is an award-winning sommelier, restaurateur and WSET wine educator who is also behind one of Perth’s top restaurants, Mayfair Lane Pub and Dining Room.
Last year Mayfair Lane took out the prestigious Jury Prize at the World of Fine Wine Awards in London.
Foni was awarded the WA Good Food Guide Sommelier of the Year in 2018 and is in the process of obtaining a Masters of Wine.
Foni loves sharing her passion for wine with students, taking her guests on a journey, and encouraging everyone to discover their own tastes and preferences.
